Mickey Mouse celebrates his 90th birthday with another anticipated Vans Vault collaboration. Four iconic artists of Southern California - John Van Hamersveld, Mister Cartoon, Taka Hayashi, and Geoff McFetridge, have teamed up with Vans Vault and Disney to create one-of-a-kind artwork featuring the beloved Disney “True Original.” Each collaborative piece celebrates the many phases and interpretations of Mickey while staying true to each artist’s personal style.
The well-rounded collection Vans’ iconic silhouette, the OG Sk8-Hi LX, as well as t-shirts have been rendered to feature each artist’s original artwork.
Vans Vault mainstay, Taka Hayashi, encompasses the all-American vibe of the one and only Mickey Mouse through a Sk8-Hi covered in different shades of denim and a Mickey-inspired hot-air balloon graphic with touches of pink.
Geoff McFetridge, Canadian designer, illustrator, and animator based in Los Angeles, portrays Mickey in a minimalistic and surreal illustrative style. His designs for the collection highlight Mickey’s iconic colors - black, red, and yellow, to create a repeating print on the shoe and a simplistic shadow of a reworked Mickey on the tee.
Legendary Los Angeles tattoo artist Mark Machado, AKA Mister Cartoon, uses his famous hand-rendered style of fine line tattooing to create Mickey Mouse “living the American Dream.” His contribution to the collection depicts a black and grey illustration of the iconic “True Original” mouse driving a vintage car on the matching t-shirt and Sk8-Hi silhouette.
Renowned illustrator and graphic designer John Van Hamersveld, who teamed up with Vans Vault just recently to produce a JVH collection, returns with his recognizable psychedelic patterns and vibrants color schemes. A “deconstructed Mickey” floats through a bright, punchy universe in his latest designs for the collaboration.
